I do love working at starbucks. It's the every day, the bloody ordinariness of it that makes me so comfortable, the idea that I'll make or break some stranger's day, and hopefully make their lives just a little bit better. This literally is my dream job, except for the shitty schedules and the crap pay.
I was talking to Alex last night about where i am right now, and worrying about my US Visa interview tomorrow for a tourist visa. I don't know. He says I worry too much, and I agree. I worry so much about everything and even for things that don't need to be worried about. Chill pill, anyone?
Recently I've been nagging my brothers to keep our kitchen sink empty (no dirty dishes allowed!) and it's been an uphill battle, since I am the eldest and only girl and sick of cleaning after them. This past 3 weeks have been a campaign to get them to not leave dishes there, especially since we have a mousie in our apartment. So last night, when i got home, the sink was sparkling clean. I was about to rejoice! and then my brother rob mentioned that our mom came by and did the dishes. Sigh. Okay.

Falling Slowly
Day Five of my flu battle today. Still in the murky area of is-it-or-isn't-it-H1N1. Been comparing battle notes with some friends who went through this, and I'm wondering if it is just a run of the mill influenza bug plus some asthma. Bah.
The doctor's kept me at home for a week, and these past couple of days have given me some forced introspection. It could really not have come at a better time, since life's thrown me at a sort of crossroads. My brother, Bas, is following his heart and moving to Edmonton to study Theology, and although I am terrified for him (the people I've met up here aren't too friendly to people with strong religious convictions) I'm also sort of envious that he finally knows what he wants to do with the rest of his life.
Two of my closest friends have gotten engaged (to awesome nice girls!) and so I would like go congratulate Boogie and Liezl, and David and Raney. You guys deserve the absolute best. I am so proud of you both.
My fantastic boyfriend Alex has been nice enough to bring me chicken soup and food ingredients for whatever I am craving, and my brothers have been good enough to cook them for me and wash the dishes afterwards.
Three days online. There's only so much Cute Overload you can look at. I found myself back on filipino sites looking through news and magazines and blogs, at familiar faces. My life would be sooo much different if I had stayed there for sure, and I would still be running a TV station (maybe), going on weekly spa trips and driving around.
Things are going to change soon. I am almost there.
Nina posted a video of this song: Falling Slowly (cover by Jess & AJ) I cried for a few minutes afterwards.
Falling Slowly by Glen Hansard
I don't know you
But I want you
All the more for that
Words fall through me
And always fool me
And I can't react
And games that never amount
To more than they're meant
Will play themselves out
Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you have a choice
You'll make it now
Falling slowly, eyes that know me
And I can't go back
Moods that take me and erase me
And I'm painted black
You have suffered enough
And warred with yourself
It's time that you won
Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you had a choice
You've made it now
Falling slowly sing your melody
I'll sing along

Snapshot
Today:
Ginny (Fine Arts blockmate) just got engaged!
Rick (from Starbucks Pivotal) just told me that one of his regular customers came in and told him that her breast cancer had come back. She had been in remission for some time. Please pray for her.
Leah (Starbucks coworker) just got back from her vacation in Hawaii. Envy.
Trace (Starbucks coworker) got a huge shopping spree yesterday care of his friend miranda. Yay him.
Erwin (Friend in Manila) is selling his Canon Camera.
I did three loads of laundry and cooked dinner after an 8 hour shift that started at 7am. Hmmm. Must. Not. Wallow. In. Self. Pity.

So Pauly Shore walks into a Starbucks...
And he is actually kind of nice. Woo. Famous person sighting number fifteen this week. We also had some of the Twilight actors in there, they are really awesome and nice. Not the pattinson guy though.

Day Off
I am definitely enjoying my day off today. I just woke up at 2. Now I am doing laundry and considering biking to starbucks to say hi to my peeps.
There is something i have to say to someone, and i still have to work up the guts to say it. Maybe it'll come to me during the spin cycle.

Tired Silly
So these past couple of weeks I've been moving from a closing shift at starbucks, which is typically 1-9:30 PM, to an opening shift, which depending on the day, starts at 5 AM or 6:30 for weekends. 5 AM! I've always been a night person, and given a choice, 5 AM is bedtime. I already had trouble before when i was scheduled for 7:30 AM shifts.
I am finding it interesting though that i am more awake at 5am than i am at 7. Still, I've been passing out on Alex's couch for four hours at a time right after. Poor bf never gets to go out with me after work as i am snoring very loudly every day.
I have to try to get back into blogging again. Woo.

On Turning 27
Things I have done today so far:
Laundry (1 load)
Taxes (partially. It's pretty screwed up so far .*shakes fist at previous employer)
Looked at Jobs (getting there! Yes!)
Paid off credit cards. WAITAMINUTE. Oh my goodness, I am officially out of debt today.
So far, so good. Let's hope this holds for the rest of the year.
Cheers!
